WWE has built a strong tag team division within NXT, a point of pride for the brand over the years. No Mercy 2024 provided a prime opportunity for this division to shine, and two of the top teams delivered an unforgettable performance.
At WWE NXT No Mercy 2024 in Denver, the NXT Tag Team Championship was contested as reigning champions Chase University, represented by Andre Chase and Ridge Holland, defended their titles against the dynamic duo of Nathan Frazer and Axiom. The match showcased the contrasting styles, with Chase University’s blend of power and strategy going head-to-head against the high-flying agility and technical prowess of their challengers.
The buildup to this match began on the August 13 episode of NXT, where Chase University captured the NXT Tag Team Championship by defeating Axiom and Nathan Frazer. The following week, after celebrating their victory, Chase University was confronted by Axiom and Frazer, who requested a rematch. Duke Hudson agreed to consider it if Axiom and Frazer could defeat him and Riley Osborne, which they did, leading to the rematch at No Mercy.
In Denver, Chase University, with Ridge Holland partnering with Andre Chase this time, faced a strong challenge from Frazer and Axiom. The match began with Frazer and Axiom taking control early on, showcasing their speed and coordination.
The action intensified as the Denver crowd remained fully engaged, cheering for every near fall. One highlight saw Ridge Holland overpower both Frazer and Axiom with chokeholds, only to be taken down by Axiom with a dive followed by a double kick to Chase. The momentum swung back and forth, with Chase University executing double-team moves on Frazer, only for Axiom to break up the pin.
In the closing moments, after some miscommunication between Axiom and Frazer, Ridge Holland nearly secured the victory with a powerbomb on Axiom. However, Frazer managed to pull off a Phoenix Splash on Chase, securing a clean win and crowning new NXT Tag Team Champions to kick off No Mercy.
