Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson possesses infinite charisma and is viewed as an outstanding US citizen and he was used by the US Army as a recruitment figure. With that said, Jim Cornette is now questioning the US Army’s decision to use him for recruitment.
In case you need a refresher, The United States Army’s $11 million investment in The Rock’s UFL Football League, intended to boost enlistment numbers, appears to have backfired.
Internal documents suggest that not only did the investment fail to attract new recruits, but it may have even hindered recruitment efforts. As part of the deal, The Rock was supposed to act as a brand ambassador, posting a set number of Army-related messages on his social media accounts. However, he only made two posts instead of the agreed-upon five, with each post valued at $1 million. Now, the Army is reportedly seeking to recover $6 million from the UFL, expressing regret over the deal and its lack of results.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Jim Cornette questioned the United States Army’s decision to use The Rock for recruitment, suggesting that while kids might idolize The Rock and dream of becoming a movie star and billionaire like him, joining the Army isn’t the path to that outcome.
Cornette believes there should be more focus on inspiring people to admire military leaders rather than using celebrities like The Rock for recruitment, as the odds of anyone achieving the same level of fame and fortune are extremely low.
“Not even age, but personality—I’m thinking, at this point, does anybody really think they’re going to idolize The Rock or want to be like The Rock? Do they think they’re going to become a movie star and a billionaire by joining the Army? Is it the same thing? Shouldn’t there be fans of the Army instead of fans of wrestlers? Fans of the great generals and commanders or whatever? I don’t know, but I would think kids want to be The Rock. Well, he didn’t become a billionaire movie star by joining the Army, but the chances are also against you—or anybody—ever becoming a billionaire movie star to begin with.”
On the other hand, The Rock is open to becoming President one day. Regardless, we’ll have to wait and see whether The Rock will pay back the money that he received from the Army.
