WrestleMania news is always bound to bring excitement, no matter what time of the year it happens to be. On August 31, as the pro wrestling world prepared for Bash in Berlin, their attention was suddenly brought back to Philadelphia for a strange reason.

Following the success of WrestleMania 2024 in Philadelphia, WWE has already scheduled WrestleMania 41 to take place in Las Vegas in 2025. Recently, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro hinted that WrestleMania 42 might return to Philadelphia in 2026 as part of the USA 250 celebrations, mentioning this possibility during a Q&A video on Twitter.

“So get this, in Philly, we’ve got the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, we got the FIFA World Cup, we got WrestleMania, we got a little golf action, the PGA Championship, and if you go over to Pittsburgh, we’ve got the NFL Draft and a lot more cool stuff happening all across Pennsylvania in the year 2026 for USA 250.”

According to an update from WrestleVotes, WWE had a positive experience with Philadelphia during WrestleMania 40 and would be open to the city hosting the event again, despite the challenges posed by the weather.

It was also mentioned that the location for WrestleMania 42 had supposedly been decided months ago, and Minneapolis was ruled out as a potential host after losing WrestleMania 41. There was some internal discussion about the location, but it quickly died down, leaving the final decision unclear. It is also possible that Josh Shapiro was simply misinformed about WrestleMania meant.

“Regarding the WrestleMania 42/Philadelphia rumors, I am told through a source that WWE is not ready to make any official announcement yet. Here’s what we can add: WWE had an excellent experience with the city of Philadelphia for WMXL, regardless of the weather, and would be interested in having the city host again.

The location for WM42 was “supposedly” decided on months ago and was off the table for Minneapolis when WM41 was pulled from them. I’m not sure that aligns with WM42 and Philly.

We have heard of a location for WM42 but haven’t released any info, as the internal chatter on that died down quickly. If it turns out to be true, it would be a repeat location…

This could also be a case of the governor using “WrestleMania” as a broad term, meaning a large WWE event, rather than the actual WrestleMania PLE. Lots of moving parts here. In addition, it seems as the original video of the statement has been pulled down.”

A number of people who don’t know anything about pro wrestling will use “WrestleMania” as a generic term that encompasses all events and companies. The fact that the video was taken down is a clear sign that Josh Shapiro isn’t an avid fan of WWE, since his life involves performing in a much different kind of arena, a political one.

Additionally, PW Insider reported that several WWE sources were surprised by Shapiro’s mention of WrestleMania 2026 in Philadelphia, as this had not been discussed internally. A well-placed source involved in the decision-making process confirmed that the location for WrestleMania 2026 had not been finalized, leading some within the company to wonder if Shapiro misspoke or if he was referring to WWE events in general rather than WrestleMania specifically.

Ringside News will keep our eyes peeled for more updates. WrestleMania 42’s location is apparently figured out, so that news could drop at any time. All we know is that Minneapolis and Philadelphia aren’t getting the grandest stage of them all in 2026. Only time will tell if it will finally be London’s time to shine.
