WWE brought the Bash in Berlin to the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, delivering five high-stakes matches for the premium live event. Fans in Germany eagerly awaited the chance to sing along to the American Nightmare Cody Rhodes’ theme song, a moment they had been anticipating for weeks.

At SummerSlam 2024, Cody Rhodes successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa in a brutal Bloodline Rules match, with Kevin Owens playing a crucial role by fending off other Bloodline members, including Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga, and Tonga Loa. The following SmackDown saw Rhodes ready to announce his next challenger for the title at Bash in Berlin, only to be interrupted by The Bloodline, with Sikoa demanding a rematch.

Rhodes refused, asserting that Sikoa hadn’t earned another shot. The new leader of The Bloodline wasn’t pleased with this response and prepared to attack Rhodes, but Owens once again intervened to protect the champion. After the confrontation, Rhodes expressed his gratitude to Owens and declared that Owens deserved a title shot, despite Owens’ concerns about his win/loss record. SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis agreed, making the match official for Bash in Berlin. This set the stage for a compelling storyline centered on Owens proving himself as a worthy challenger, leaving fans on edge, wondering if Owens might turn on Cody.

The match started slowly, but the fans were electric from the beginning, filling the arena with German chants and cheering both competitors. After an initial feeling-out period, Rhodes gained the upper hand with a dive to the outside. The momentum shifted as Owens took control by kicking Rhodes out of the ring and landing a splash off the apron, bringing the fight back into the ring. After trading blows and big moves, Rhodes nearly sealed the match with a Cody Cutter, but Owens answered with a top-rope rolling senton for a close two-count.

Rhodes responded with a Cross Rhodes out of nowhere, but Owens survived with a near fall of his own after a top-rope fisherman’s brainbuster. The match took a dramatic turn when Rhodes’ knee buckled during another Cody Cutter attempt, but Owens, showing restraint, initially refused to exploit the injury. However, after Rhodes assured him he was fine, Owens targeted the knee but held back from delivering a powerbomb on the apron. Back in the ring, Cody kicked out after a Stunner, leading to a thrilling climax.

In the final moments, Rhodes hit two Cross Rhodes, but Owens countered a third attempt with a Stunner for another close call. Owens went for a swanton, but Rhodes got his knees up and followed with another Cross Rhodes to secure the win. The Berlin crowd erupted in approval as the American Nightmare retained his title.
