WWE brought the Bash in Berlin to the Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany, with a lineup of matches steeped in drama, but none captured the WWE Universe’s attention quite like the clash between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre.

At SummerSlam 2024, Drew McIntyre bested CM Punk in a match officiated by special guest referee Seth Rollins. In the lead-up to the event, McIntyre had stolen a bracelet from Punk, a deeply personal item engraved with the names of Punk’s wife, AJ Lee, and his dog, Larry.

During their SummerSlam showdown, Punk managed to retrieve the bracelet but accidentally dropped it, leading Rollins to pick it up to move it out of harm’s way. Misinterpreting this as a deliberate act of sabotage, Punk lashed out at Rollins, inadvertently costing himself the match and allowing McIntyre to reclaim the bracelet. The rivalry intensified on the August 12 episode of WWE RAW when Punk and McIntyre brawled, culminating in Punk whipping McIntyre with a belt. The following week, on August 19, Punk revealed that Raw General Manager Adam Pearce had sanctioned a Strap Match between him and McIntyre at Bash in Berlin, a challenge that McIntyre quickly accepted.

This match had fans on the edge of their seats. Though bloodshed is usually reserved for more intense matches, even within a PG setting, it was clear that these two would push the limits in Berlin. The crowd erupted in chants and cheers even before the two were tied up, their electric entrances setting the tone for what was to come.

Before the strap could even be attached, McIntyre ambushed Punk, launching a brutal assault around the ring. The match hadn’t officially started, but McIntyre took full advantage, whipping Punk with the strap before they were even hooked up. Punk only managed a single punch as McIntyre dominated the early moments, even after the match officially began.

In a Strap Match, victory comes when one competitor touches all four turnbuckles in succession. Punk struggled to even stand before McIntyre knocked him down again. In a sudden shift, Punk landed a GTS (Go to Sleep), but rather than attempting to touch the turnbuckles, he chose to continue his assault.

With the crowd chanting his name, Punk slowly took control. McIntyre attempted to escape the ring, but Punk pursued him, leading to a moment where Punk backdropped McIntyre onto the announce table. The action returned to the ring, where McIntyre took over, leaving Punk bloodied after a vicious headbutt from the Scottish Warrior. McIntyre then wedged a chair into the turnbuckle, but Punk regained control and retrieved a table from under the ring, setting it up for later. Just as momentum seemed to favor Punk, McIntyre delivered a devastating Claymore Kick, shifting the match back in his favor.

McIntyre’s fortunes turned when he collided with the chair he had wedged in the ropes, giving Punk the upper hand. Punk began touching the turnbuckles to win the match, but fell short of the fourth. Suddenly, McIntyre launched Punk through the table set up at ringside, prompting the German crowd to erupt in a “Holy Sh*t!” chant.

The momentum swung back and forth until Punk landed another GTS, followed by a final one, and began his quest to touch all four turnbuckles. Taking his time, Punk delivered two more GTS moves before finally reaching the third and fourth turnbuckles. Before sealing the victory, Punk reclaimed his bracelet from McIntyre’s wrist. This was a monumental win for the Second City Saint in Berlin.
