Daniel Garcia returned to AEW at All In, and he was a big reason why MJF lost the American Title to Will Ospreay. Then Ospreay turned that title right back into the International Title as his hometown fans cheered him on. A lot of fans were shocked to see Garcia, because his name was churning in the rumor mill in a big way. Now, it is believed that he has inked a new deal with Tony Khan.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the deal and the offer made to Daniel Garcia were reportedly described as “being bad for the sport.” This would have done a number on the company’s pre-existing salary structure.
“The deal, and the offer to Daniel Garcia, were told to us by someone on the WWE side for Garcia and more than one on Strickland, as being bad for the sport because they are so far over what would WWE would perceive the market value for both to be, with the idea he’s spending more than he needs to and raising salaries.”
After AEW All In, Tony Khan was asked if Daniel Garcia had signed a new deal. Although he didn’t explicitly confirm or deny it, he implied that a new deal hadn’t been signed by mentioning how they had Sting for three years, which was great, how they had Danielson for three years, and how they’ve had Garcia for five years.
That being said, the fact that Garcia was brought back suggests that he is likely staying with AEW. Those within WWE also seemed to believe he is staying. Sources close to the situation reportedly noted that while Garcia had considered WWE, which was actively trying to recruit him, they expected him to remain with AEW.
“One has to think bringing him back is the indication he’s staying. Those in WWE seemed to believe that. When the angle was done, several close to the situation noted that they expected him to stay but he had considered WWE, which was trying to recruit him.”
We will keep our eye on this situation, because AEW hasn’t announced that Daniel Garcia has inked a new deal just yet. Then again, they have withheld that kind of information in the past, as MJF is also believed to have signed a new contract with the company long before fans knew that the Bidding War of 2024 was over.
