Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder during his time in WWE, never realized his full potential in the company. He was subsequently released back in 2020 and in the years since, he has completely transformed his career and now he has expressed his desire to join a major television company.
In the four years since his WWE release, Matt Cardona has found renewed success on the independent circuit, earning the nickname “Indy God” for his achievements in various independent wrestling promotions.
While speaking on Barstool Sports’ ‘Rasslin’ with Brandon F. Walker, Matt Cardona opened up about his readiness to return to the big leagues of professional wrestling. Reflecting on his journey since being released from WWE four years ago, Cardona shared that his focus was never on returning to WWE or AEW but on rebuilding and rebranding himself.
Having achieved significant success on the independent circuit, Cardona now feels he has accomplished all there is to do outside of the mainstream spotlight. With numerous titles under his belt and a well-established reputation, he believes the time is right to transition back to a major television company. Though he’s aware that his “Indy God” persona might not translate directly to the big leagues, Cardona is eager to embrace the challenge and elevate his career to the next level.
“When I got released from WWE four years ago, my whole goal wasn’t ‘what can I do to get back there.’ I knew I had to forget about WWE, forget about AEW, and focus on myself,” he said. “Rebuild and rebrand. I think I’ve successfully done that.
Now it’s time, coming back from this injury, I’ve done everything there is to do on the indies. Won all the titles. There are titles in my closet right now, I don’t even know what promotion they are for. Been there, done that. Now is the time to go to a major TV company. I don’t know if Major TV Company God has the same ring to it as Indie God, but we’ll figure it out.”
Matt Cardona already made it clear he wants to take part in TNA and WWE’s crossover and he is interested in returning to WWE in general. Regardless, we’ll have to see which pro wrestling company he will join in the end.
