Roman Reigns made a surprise return at SummerSlam, targeting Solo Sikoa instead of Cody Rhodes. Despite this shift, it’s more or less expected that Rhodes and Reigns will face off again in the future. In fact, Cody Rhodes has expressed a strong interest in a rematch with Reigns.

On the August 9, 2024, episode of WWE SmackDown, Roman Reigns made his presence felt at the end of the show to triumph over The Bloodline. However, the opposite happened on August 16th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, as Jacob Fatu returned and destroyed The Tribal Chief.

While speaking to Inside The Ropes, Cody Rhodes was asked if Friday Night SmackDown is big enough to hold both Rhodes and Roman Reigns as a babyface. Cody Rhodes expressed that he isn’t concerned and mentioned that he believes the discussion about how Roman Reigns and himself could coexist is worth considering. He pointed out that SmackDown has ample space, especially with its transition from Fox to USA Network.

Rhodes noted that there is room for both a returning Roman Reigns and himself, potentially still as WWE Champion. He also stated that a match between him and Roman Reigns might be one of the biggest opportunities for WWE at the moment and acknowledged that this possibility has been on his mind.

“I’m not concerned. I do think, uh, I think it was, uh, I don’t know how to pronounce his name, the really, really complimentary guy from Wrestle Purist, I think, who had put out this like, ‘How’s this going to coexist?’ There’s plenty of real estate on SmackDown, especially SmackDown, who’s had a wonderful partnership with Fox and now moving on to USA. There’s plenty of real estate for, um, a returning Roman Reigns and myself, hopefully still as WWE Champion. And if anything, and I don’t know if it’s on his mind, I certainly am not opposed to it, but again, perhaps the biggest match WWE could have right now is one more time with, uh, with Roman Reigns and myself, and I’m sure that’s on someone’s mind. I know it’s something that’s been on my mind.”

Roman Reigns is also no longer advertised for the September 13th edition of Friday Night SmackDown, so it might be a while until he returns. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see when Reigns and Rhodes will have their highly anticipated rematch.
