Mercedes Mone’s arrival in AEW has certainly made waves, but her match against Britt Baker at AEW All In 2024 has sparked mixed reactions among fans and critics alike. As both the TBS Champion and the NJPW Women’s Strong Champion, Mone came into the bout with high expectations.

However, the match has been criticized for its pacing and execution, with many feeling it fell short of the hype. Some fans criticized the match, which saw Mone successfully defend her TBS Championship, for being too slow and featuring several uninspired spots.

This led to criticism, mainly aimed at Britt Baker, with some fans blaming her for the match’s shortcomings. Moreover, AEW commentator and veteran Jim Ross also weighed in on the match, suggesting that the bout’s length was a key issue.

However, ECW legend Francine shared a completely different insight on the bout during a recent episode of the Eyes Up Here podcast, defending both Mone and Baker. She felt that the criticism was overly harsh and that while the match may not have been perfect, it didn’t deserve the level of backlash it received.

“Not everything goes 100% the way you plan it to. You work around it. But it wasn’t to the point where I said, oh my god that’s a botch or oh my god they messed that up. You know what I mean? The reports that I was reading they were just burying the girls, and I was just expecting a shitshow and that’s not what I saw. I think that people were too hard on them.”

Mercedes Mone has acknowledged some regrets about the match. Despite the criticism, it remains to be seen whether Mone and Baker will potentially cross paths again in the ring to deliver a more satisfying performance than AEW All In.

Do you agree with Francine that people have been too hard on their criticism regarding the Mercedes Mone vs Britt Baker match? What are your thoughts on the match? Sound off in the comments!
