Matt Riddle has finally opened up about the drama with Roman Reigns that made waves back in 2021. This comes after former WWE personality Matt Camp recently revisited the situation on his YouTube channel.
The tension between Riddle and Reigns dates back to the summer of 2021 when Riddle made headlines with some bold comments about Reigns. In an interview, Riddle claimed that Reigns “doesn’t move the needle” and that his top spot in WWE was due to his relationship with The Rock. Riddle even went as far as to say he could “beat up” Reigns in a real fight. This was in response to Reigns downplaying CM Punk’s popularity compared to The Rock and John Cena when Punk was on top.
Riddle has never been shy about speaking his mind, having previously criticized stars like Brock Lesnar and Goldberg. On The Bubba Army, Riddle shared that after his comments about Reigns, he received a text from “The Tribal Chief” calling him unprofessional. This led to Riddle penning an apology to Reigns, with some help from Randy Orton. Despite the apology, Riddle claimed that Reigns called him a “b*tch” the next time they crossed paths at a house show.
Fast forward to today, and it seems the tension between the two has eased. Speaking to the New York Post, Riddle explained where things stand with Reigns now.
“This isn’t a flex, this is the truth. If I didn’t think I could, I wouldn’t say it,” Riddle said. “You don’t hear me saying I can beat up Bobby Lashley, you know, maybe on a good day. Or a Brock Lesnar, maybe on a good day. I think when [Roman] saw how professional I am in the ring and I also explained why things were said and I wasn’t just trying to call you out. I know my place in WWE but when someone tells me to cut a promo on you, I’m gonna cut a promo on you. I think he understood that. Still wasn’t happy about it, but understood. Me and Roman, we’re good.”
Riddle’s candid comments suggest that while there may have been some rough patches, both he and Reigns have moved on from the drama.
As for Riddle’s future, he’s set to wrestle at MLW’s Summer of the Beasts on Thursday, continuing to make waves both inside and outside of WWE.
