Pete Dunne Admits Renaming to Butch Nearly Ended His Career After 8/26 WWE RAW

Pete Dunne has been portrayed as a heel since betraying Sheamus last month on Monday Night RAW. He also used to be known as Butch for a very long time and now Dunne has admitted being renamed to Butch almost killed his career after RAW this week.

Dunne has been in a heated rivalry with Sheamus on WWE Raw recently, blaming his former Brawling Brutes teammate for derailing his career by changing his name to Butch. On the August 26th episode of WWE RAW, Dunne gained momentum by defeating The Miz and Xavier Woods to advance in the WWE Intercontinental Championship Number One Contender’s Tournament.

While speaking in a Raw Exclusive, Pete Dunne expressed his frustration that Sheamus continues to call him Butch. He emphasized that he’s determined to win the tournament. Dunne talked about how, in the wrestling business, winning and losing matches is part of the job.

However, what really angered him was Sheamus continuing to use the name Butch, admitting that it’s something that nearly ruined his career. Dunne made it clear that he deserves better and is focused on winning the Intercontinental Title. When he wins the tournament, he wants to be called something he approves of—champion.

“I’ve been in this business long enough to know you’re gonna win matches, you’re gonna lose matches, it’s part of the job. But for Sheamus, that scumbag, to turn around and still call me Butch, to have a laugh that something that nearly killed my career, this is all I’ve got, man. He knows that. All I’ve ever been and ever will be is a fighter. To be demoralized and reduced to that name, it shows what kind of person he really is. I don’t deserve it. You all know that. But you know what I do deserve, after all the setbacks and backstabs? A shot at the Intercontinental Title. I’m not taking this opportunity lightly. When I win that tournament and I have my hand lifted in the air, you can all call me something I approve of — champion.”

We will have to wait and see whether Pete Dunne will end up winning the whole tournament and go on to become the new Intercontinental Champion, as he clearly has momentum on his side.
