Current TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth has been on a remarkable winning streak in the wrestling world. He has traveled the globe, competing for TNA, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and has added several titles to his collection. However, his time in WWE was far from perfect and it appears he planned on retiring after his infamous match with Goldberg.
Dolph Ziggler faced off against WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg back in 2019 at the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. It was nothing more than a one-sided beatdown as it barely lasted a few minutes and it even made him think about dying in the ring.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Nemeth shared more about how that match came about, revealing that he was actually planning to leave WWE at the time. His last days with the company were supposed to involve putting over two other wrestlers, one of whom was The Miz, who defeated Nemeth on the August 12, 2019 episode of RAW right after SummerSlam.
“That Sunday and that Monday were supposed to be my last two days with the company,” said Nemeth. “I was retiring. I was putting over two guys on the way out.”
Nic Nemeth revealed that he was informed about the plan to lose to Goldberg in the SummerSlam match shortly before the event. When he learned the specifics of how the match would play out, he was unhappy with the decision.
Nemeth approached his boss Vince McMahon, expressing his frustration and pleading for a different role. He even questioned his future with the company, stating that if they couldn’t trust him with this match, he didn’t want to continue working there.
”I go to the boss, and I am begging,” said Nemeth. “I go, ‘Boss, you could have a local do this. If I can’t do this, you can’t trust me to do this, then you can’t trust to me do anything. I don’t want to work here.'”
It is certainly a relief that Nic Nemeth didn’t end up retiring after his match with Goldberg as he has now accomplished a lot in the years after that infamous match. Nonetheless, Nemeth will always remember how his career was in a downturn during his time in WWE.
