CM Punk returned to WWE after a decade of being away from the company at the 2023 Survivor Series event in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. He announced his return was to main event of WrestleMania 40. However, his plans were derailed upon his comeback.
At the 2024 Royal Rumble, CM Punk was injured by Drew McIntyre in the name-sake match, which put him on the injured list with a torn triceps for nearly seven months. But Punk managed to rehab and do intense training to once again get cleared for in-ring action, returning to the ring at SummerSlam in a match against Drew McIntyre.
The Best in the World is next set to battle McIntyre once again, this time in a strap match at WWE’s next PLE, Bash in Berlin in one week. This would mark CM Punk’s first match at WWE’s international Premium Live Event since returning to the company.
However, Punk took to his Instagram stories to share his disappointment about missing the WWE Backlash PLE that took in France due to his injury and blamed Drew McIntyre for the same. But CM Punk expressed gratitude that he gets to travel to Germany for Bash in Berlin to return the favour to him.
“One of the worst parts about Drew injuring me was missing out on France. Grateful I get to travel to Germany to return the favor.”
CM Punk got the upper hand on Drew McIntyre, viciously beating him down with a strap on RAW this week. With The Second City Saint ready for his first International PLE, it would be interesting to see if Punk could score the win over McIntyre after failing to defeat him at WWE SummerSlam.
