Ricochet’s transition from WWE to AEW has generated significant buzz, especially following his impactful debut at the 2024 AEW All-In at Wembley Stadium. In the Casino Gauntlet match, Ricochet quickly showcased his remarkable skills, making an immediate impression on the AEW audience despite not securing the victory.
However, some critics believe that Ricochet could become irrelevant within a few months of his AEW debut. But WWE legend Booker T, on his Hall of Fame podcast, expressed optimism about the high-flyer’s future in AEW. He highlighted that Ricochet’s unique abilities are better suited to AEW’s style, which allows for more creative freedom in the ring. Booker T noted that Ricochet had already experienced the grandeur of WWE, including WrestleMania, and now has the opportunity to focus on having great matches and building a stellar career in AEW.
“I’m glad to see Ricochet have a soft landing. The kid can work man. He’s definitely an extraordinary talent, definitely a next level talent. I just feel like he fits a whole lot better in the AEW system better than the WWE system. But he got a chance to do the WWE thing and that’s one thing a lot of guys wonder about that haven’t gotten to do the WWE thing. The WrestleMania week and all that stuff. He’s gotten the chance to experience that kind of stuff several times, so for him to actually move to the next level, it’s not as hard at all, because now for him, it’s all about getting paid, going out and having some good matches, and hopefully a stellar career at the end of the day.
The five-time WCW Champion emphasized that Ricochet’s new environment in AEW would enable him to fully unleash his talents, as AEW’s approach allows wrestlers to take more control over their matches. This freedom could lead to more “outrageous” and memorable performances from Ricochet, which weren’t always possible in WWE.
I think for Ricochet to be able to have some of the outrageous matches that he possibly can have, that means going out there and just letting it hang out. That means you ask the boss, ‘What do you want me to do tonight?’ and the boss says, ‘Whatever you guys want to do’. That’s what he’s got now. So it’s gonna be an unlimited amount of stuff you can see from Ricochet now that you couldn’t see before.”
As Ricochet gears up for his next match on the August 28th edition of AEW Dynamite, fans are eager to see how Ricochet’s journey in AEW will unfold and whether he will continue to make a lasting impact. This next phase in Ricochet’s career is closely watched, with many anticipating that he will prove his doubters wrong and solidify his place as a top-tier performer in AEW.
Do you agree with Booker T that Ricochet’s talents align much better with the AEW system than WWE? Will he gain more success than he did in WWE? Sound off in the comments!
