Ronda Rousey departed from WWE after her match against Shayna Baszler at SummerSlam last year and she ultimately didn’t get to accomplish a lot of things in the company. In fact, she believes Vince McMahon neglected her feud with Alexa Bliss.
One of Ronda Rousey’s earliest feuds in WWE was against Alexa Bliss and many fans didn’t feel it was a believable one considering the size difference between the two. Even then, both competitors did their best to make the feud a memorable one.
During an interview with Ring The Belle, Ronda Rosey was asked about her feud with Alexa Bliss. Rousey noted that she initially believed the company was trying to help her improve as a wrestler by pairing her with Bliss.
However, Rousey later realized that the decision was likely more about Vince McMahon’s focus on merchandise sales and her own popularity at the time, rather than a carefully crafted storyline. She described it as part of a pattern where she had to make the best of less-than-ideal situations. Despite this, Rousey acknowledged that she learned valuable lessons from Bliss, particularly about using comedy, storytelling, and expressions to engage the audience.
“Well at the time I was like ‘Oh well maybe they’re just trying to like make me be a better wrestler and be able to sell for someone who’s as big as my leg and make it convincing.’ But really it just came down to the fact that Vince didn’t pay any attention to us and just looked at ‘Oh she sells the most merch, Ronda’s hot right now, put them together.’
That was as much thought as he put into it. That started a long legacy of having to make chicken s*** into chicken salad. But I learned a lot from her. She taught me like okay we’re going to have to lead on like comedy and story and expressions and stuff like that to be able to get people into this.”
Ronda Rousey also claims that she was fighting against Vince McMahon to have great matches in WWE. Nonetheless, Rousey would consider making return to WWE under Triple H’s regime, so we’ll have to see what will become of Ronda Rousey in the end.
