AEW is closely monitoring the entire pro wrestling landscape, with Tony Khan ready to invest heavily in the right talent. The company has already signed numerous stars from the independent circuit, and their latest prospect is Michael Oku. Rumors suggest that Oku, who recently dropped a title, is preparing for his imminent debut with AEW.
Michael Oku has managed to make a significant impact on AEW’s landscape without yet appearing on their TV programming. He gained notable attention by defeating Will Ospreay in Ospreay’s final match before joining AEW, securing a submission victory after a 47-minute match at February’s RevPro High Stakes event.
Since then, MJF, who is set to face Ospreay at AEW All In, defended his AEW American Championship against Oku at the RevPro Summer Sizzler event earlier this month. Oku has confirmed discussions with Tony Khan but denied signing a contract with AEW.
Further adding to the speculation of his rumored AEW debut, Oku lost his Undisputed British Heavyweight Championship. At the RevPro 12 Year Anniversary Show on August 24, he was defeated by independent standout Luke Jacobs, who is also the PROGRESS World Champion. This loss ends Oku’s impressive 412-day reign and intensifies speculation about his future in AEW.
With AEW All In set to take place on August 25th, there is always the chance Michael Oku will make his presence felt during MJF and Will Ospreay’s match and help Ospreay win the title. We will have to wait and see if Oku appears at All In, as fans would love to see that happen.
