AEW has seen steady growth over the past five years, with one of the biggest advancements being their collaborations with other promotions like NJPW and STARDOM. These partnerships gave rise to the Forbidden Door event, which has quickly become a fan favorite. Next year’s Forbidden Door is expected to take place in London, but it may not take place at Wembley Stadium.

As reported earlier, an advertisement at Wembley Stadium suggested that next year’s Forbidden Door would be happening in London. The venue for the event was not confirmed either.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated that he believes that AEW Forbidden Door London 2025 is unlikely to be held at Wembley Stadium for the third consecutive year. Instead, he suggests the event will probably take place at smaller venues such as the O2 Arena or Wembley Arena. Meltzer explained that hosting an event at a large stadium like Wembley would require attracting around 40,000 attendees, which he doubts AEW can achieve again.

Meltzer also compared AEW’s situation to WWE’s history in the UK, noting that after selling out Wembley Stadium in 1992, WWE has consistently opted for smaller venues like the O2 Arena or Wembley Arena for subsequent events. Meltzer emphasized that even WWE, which is larger than AEW, chooses these smaller arenas, suggesting it’s a more practical approach for AEW moving forward.

“It would be the 02 or Wembley, and when I say Wembley I mean Wembley Arena. ..To book a stadium like Wembley you’ve got to probably do 40,000 and I don’t think they could come back and do 40,000. I don’t think so. If you’re going in every year, and they should, they should do TV from the UK, that TV was great they should do that every year. But I think the idea is you probably go to the 02 just like WWE did. WWE never went back to Wembley ever, they went in 1992 sold it out and then every time they went back it was the 02 or Wembley Arena. And there’s a reason for that, and that’s WWE – AEW’s not as big as WWE.”

It is to be noted that Wembley Arena has a capacity of 12,500 while the O2 Arena has 20,000 capacity. Therefore, we will have to wait and see if AEW officially confirms Wembley Arena or the O2 as the venue for Forbidden Door in 2025.
