LA Knight is one of the top stars in WWE right now, and he has finally become a champion. With that said, he believes there was genuine concern in WWE that he was going to become a flash in the pan.

LA Knight won the WWE United States Title at SummerSlam after defeating Logan Paul, in moment that definitely made fans happy. It was then revealed that Knight signed a multi-year deal with WWE as well.

While speaking to Mail Sport, LA Knight was asked about his reaction to winning the title and if he thought it should have happened sooner. He mentioned that last year, he felt it might have been the right time for a title win, but acknowledged that there’s no definitive way to determine the perfect timing. He feels that whether it happened last year or now, it feels right at this moment. He noted that his challenge was to prove he could maintain his popularity, which was unusual given how quickly things escalated for him.

“There was definitely a point last year where I felt like now was probably the right time to make it happen. There’s no real way to know what’s right or wrong. But at this point, whether it was late or on time, it feels right. I think, whether it happened last year or this time, the onus was on me to prove that I could stay afloat and remain as popular as I have for the last year,  I think that that was really weird. I don’t know what it is about me, and maybe it’s with everybody, or maybe it’s just me because of how quickly things happened and picked up.”

Knight talked about the rise in his popularity last year and stated that he believes there were genuine concerns in WWE that he was going to be a flash in the pan. Despite that, he said that nothing ever truly faltered. He recognized that while popularity naturally fluctuates, even when things slowed down a bit in early 2024, they picked up significantly in the spring and summer, with his status reaching new heights.

“The popularity grew last year, and there was a lot of thought about whether it would last or if it was just a flash in the pan. You’ve heard those promos—flash in the pan, flavour of the month, etc. I think there was some genuine concern about that, to the point where it was like, “Alright, well, we pulled the trigger on this guy, and if things flounder, what do we do?” Well, guess what? Nothing ever floundered. Yes, things ebb and flow, they go up and down. But as things cooled off a little bit in the winter of early 2024, all of a sudden, boom! We get into the spring and summer, and things are bigger, super bigger, and on track more than they’ve ever been.”

LA Knight has also addressed potentially letting John Cena face him for the United States Championship. Nonetheless, The Megastar is clearly happy with how things turned out for him and that’s all that matters in the end.
