Mustafa Ali made waves last year when he bid farewell to WWE, opting to pursue his career elsewhere. Since then, he’s risen to prominence and he has now revealed that his wife retired surgery when WWE released him.
Ali took to Twitter and released a preview of “Immersed: Ali vs. Bailey,” a documentary that covers the lead-up to and aftermath of his match against Bailey at TNA Slammiversary 2024. He recalled that on the day he was released from WWE, he also learned that his wife needed neck surgery.
Mustafa Ali shared that after he broke the news of his release to his wife, her doctor called her moments later and informed her that she had a broken neck and required surgery.
“People don’t know that the day I got released, I went upstairs and told my wife the news. Two [or] three minutes later, her doctor called her and she was like, ‘You have a broken neck. You need neck surgery.’”
Ali felt that his match against Bailey helped silence many of his critics. Nearly a year after his wife’s diagnosis, he provided a positive update on his family’s well-being, noting that while he might not be in the best shape after wrestling Bailey, he felt he had proven himself and addressed the doubts about his performance.
“My wife’s healthy, my babies are healthy. I’m probably not as healthy after wrestling Mike Bailey, but I think tonight I finally shut up a lot of those critics that thought I couldn’t deliver.”
Mustafa Ali also confirmed that his time with TNA Wrestling is over and he is currently competing in various promotions all over the world. Regardless, we’ll have to see what Ali does next, as he has certainly made the most of his opportunities so far.
