Will Ospreay recently shared a memorable story from his time in Japan, revealing why red wine is now a no-go for him.

While appearing on the Off Menu podcast, Ospreay was asked to name his dream meal and what drink he would pair it with. Although he usually enjoys vodka and diet coke, red wine is off the table after a disastrous night that left him with a hefty bill.

Ospreay recalled a night out in Japan where he was constantly given red wine by a sponsor. The night ended with Ospreay falling asleep in a bathtub, causing water to overflow and result in £2000 in water damage.

“Red wine I can’t do, I was vomiting all night, I nearly died from red wine. I was out in Japan, all the boys having a couple of drinks. This sponsor was plying me with red wine all the time. My boy Henare who’s over in Japan right now took me home, put me in my hotel room.

“I ran myself a bath, fell asleep in the bath, had to pay a two grand bill because all the water spilled out into the lobby. I woke up at 4am in the morning, freezing like ‘why the f*ck is it cold in here?!’ It was everywhere. So red wine’s a no-go.”

Ospreay is currently focused on reclaiming his American Championship as he prepares to face MJF at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. Their previous encounter saw MJF emerge victorious using underhanded tactics in the final moments of a 60-minute match.

Will Ospreay’s red wine mishap in Japan is certainly a story to remember—and one that explains why he steers clear of the drink these days. Despite the expensive and chaotic night, Ospreay remains focused on his career, with his eyes set on reclaiming the American Championship at AEW All In. As Ospreay prepares for this high-stakes showdown, fans can expect nothing less than a fierce battle
