Former President of TNA Wrestling Scott D’Amore recently shared a revealing story about his interactions with WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Triple H, ahead of a major crossover between the two companies.
During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, D’Amore discussed the partnership between WWE’s NXT brand and TNA Wrestling, which began to take shape earlier in 2024. One of the key moments in this partnership was TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace’s appearance in the 2024 Royal Rumble match.
D’Amore recounted receiving a text from Triple H just before he left for the Jericho Cruise, which confirmed that all the details surrounding Grace’s appearance had been finalized. D’Amore expressed his appreciation for the gesture, highlighting how it demonstrated a level of professionalism and respect that is often rare in the wrestling industry.
“One of the last things I get (before leaving for the Jericho Cruise) is a text from Triple H, which was just like, ‘Hey, I know you might be out of touch this weekend, just wanted you to know we finalized this, this and this, everything’s good, just how we discussed, have a safe trip, have fun.’ And that is just so freakin’ cool.”
He noted that this level of communication was refreshing, given the sometimes cutthroat nature of the wrestling business. D’Amore emphasized that even though he didn’t expect anything underhanded from WWE, it was reassuring to receive confirmation that everything was on track, allowing him to enjoy his time away with peace of mind.
“That’s just how wrestling a lot of times hasn’t been. A lot of times it’d have been like, ‘Oh, he’s gone, he’s at the sea, we can do whatever we wanna do now and really screw some people over’. But it just wasn’t.”
“And not that I expected that they would ever do any of that stuff, that they would do anything underhanded, but even just to take the time when you’re that busy to say, ‘Hey, I know he’s gonna be possibly out of touch for a few days, I want him to leave knowing we’re all good, all these things that we have said are fine, it’s done, you’re gonna be really happy with it’. And I was.”
This collaboration between WWE and TNA marked a significant moment in wrestling history, with many fans never expecting such a partnership to materialize. However, just two weeks after the Royal Rumble, D’Amore was unexpectedly fired by TNA’s parent company, Anthem Sports and Entertainment. This decision reportedly did not sit well with some of TNA’s talent at the time.
Since his departure from TNA, D’Amore has focused on his new venture, the revival of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, which is set to launch with a two-night event titled Forged in Excellence on October 19 and 20.
