Jim Cornette has extensive experience in the pro wrestling world, having once run OVW, a feeder system for WWE, where he gained significant insight into training wrestlers. After watching a clip from AEW Dynamite this week, he expressed his displeasure.

During AEW Dynamite in Cardiff on August 21, Toni Storm faced Saraya in a match that received a strong reaction from the live audience. However, one spot in the match caught Cornette’s attention, causing him to cringe.

Cornette took to Twitter after seeing a clip of the match between Saraya and Toni Storm. The two wrestlers attempted something new, but it didn’t seem to resonate with everyone, especially since the execution was flawed. Cornette tweeted that if such a performance had occurred in OVW during his tenure, neither wrestler would have progressed beyond the beginner’s class.

I can honestly say if this had been done on OVW TV these two would have never been let out of the beginner’s class again.

In another recent news story, Jim Cornette suggested that WWE might be inflating the value of certain wrestlers to drive up AEW’s spending. He speculated that WWE could be using this strategy to force Tony Khan to invest more money, even if WWE doesn’t intend to sign the talent. Cornette mentioned examples like Will Ospreay and Okada, implying that WWE might be testing AEW’s financial commitment.

As AEW continues to establish itself in the professional wrestling world, now over five years strong, the company has seen significant growth in its roster, leading to increased salaries for its talent. It’s up for debate whether all of that investment is paying off.

Cornette has consistently voiced his criticism of AEW and Tony Khan, and this match between Saraya and Mariah May provided him with more material for his commentary. It remains to be seen how AEW will respond to fan posts featuring the video clip, especially given past actions made in the name of the company.
