The August 20 episode of WWE NXT set up a lot of matches for the No Mercy Premium Live Event including the main event. However, it appears a change has been made to the match during the latest set of NXT television tapings.
On the August 20 edition of NXT TV, Joe Hendry won a number one contender’s Triple Threat match, defeating Wes Lee and Pete Dunne with some assistance from Trick Williams. This victory earned Hendry his first title opportunity in WWE, marking his first major championship shot since he fell short in the six-man elimination TNA World Championship match at Slammiversary in July 2024.
WWE taped the August 27 episode of NXT at the WWE Performance Center, where a change was made to the main event of No Mercy. During the final segment of the taping, Joe Hendry held another concert, playfully taunting Ethan Page. The segment escalated into a back-and-forth promo between Hendry and Page, which was interrupted by NXT General Manager Ava.
Ava announced that the NXT Title match at No Mercy would feature a special guest referee, who was revealed to be Trick Williams. The friendship between Trick Williams and Joe Hendry continued as Williams celebrated with Hendry after Hendry took down Ethan Page with the Standing Ovation.
NXT No Mercy will be taking place on September 1 and there is most definitely a lot of hype behind the Premium Live Event for good reason, as fans want to see Joe Hendry beat Ethan Page for the NXT Championship. Therefore, we will have to wait and see if Hendry will prevail when all is said and done.
