AEW successfully secured MJF with a lucrative long-term deal, and The Salt of the Earth even has the tattoo to prove it. While there have been whispers of potential contract tampering by WWE during the process, the bottom line is that MJF signed a massive contract to stay with Tony Khan’s company.
MJF has made no secret of the substantial interest in his name, and he’s been vocal about his desire to become a millionaire. Now, it seems he’s finally reached the financial status he aimed for, with the wealth to back it up.
For a while, MJF’s future in wrestling was uncertain. Even during his reign as AEW World Champion, he teased the idea of jumping ship to WWE if they offered the most money in what he dubbed the Bidding War of 2024, referring to his then-upcoming free agency. However, MJF lost the title before January 1, 2024, when Samoa Joe defeated him at AEW Worlds End. After a brief hiatus due to injuries, MJF returned at AEW Double or Nothing, making it clear that he was staying put. Later, he openly stated that he was now making a ton of money. In an interview with WrestleTalk, MJF reflected on the Bidding War of 2024.
“I won. I’m f*cking rich. It’s f*cking crazy. You don’t understand. I have so much money. It’s hilarious. The whole locker room f*cking hates me because they all know how much I’m making, and they are not…it’s peanuts in comparison. I’m only 28. You have guys walking around in their 40s who have given their body to this industry. They’re dying, practically, and they don’t make a fraction of what I make. It’s f*cking great. I got the bag. It’s sick. Tony is a f*cking mark. My God. Showed me the number. Phew. Signed fast. Fast. Yes, I won.”
When questioned about whether he had engaged in conversations with WWE, MJF coyly declined to answer, citing legal reasons.
“I can’t answer that for legal reasons because if I did have conversations with WWE, that would be considered what?”
Looking ahead, MJF is set to defend the American Title against Will Ospreay at All In. The outcome of that match at Wembley Stadium remains to be seen, but rest assured, we’ll be here with all the updates, including whether Ospreay manages to capture the American Title and revert it to the International Championship.
We will keep our eye on this story to see what is in the future. MJF is sticking around AEW for the long haul, and he seems to be very happy about his arrangement.
