AEW has a lot of things in the pipeline, as next year’s All In event has already been announced for Texas. Even though summer 2024 isn’t over yet, AEW’s Darby Allin is already gearing up for some monumental plans in 2025, both in and out of the ring.
As part of the media buzz surrounding last week’s announcement of All In heading to Arlington, Texas’ Globe Life Field next July, Allin spoke with the Dallas Morning News about his plans to climb Mount Everest and the excitement surrounding next summer’s big pay-per-view.
Earlier this year, Allin had to abandon his Mount Everest climb scheduled for March after breaking his foot in a match against Jay White during Dynamite: Big Business. He was set to embark on the climb just two weeks after the match, but the injury forced him to postpone. Despite the setback, Allin remains undeterred. He confirmed that he still intends to make the climb next April.
“You can only climb it two months out of the year. If you could climb it any month, I would have been there right now. But, you know, you gotta wait a year,” Allin explained, noting that his nine-month training regimen was something most would spend years preparing for.
“Everybody’s saying, like, ‘Maybe (the foot break) is a sign that you shouldn’t do it.’ And I said, ‘Hell no, that’s a sign I should do it next year.’ It’s been such a roller coaster of emotions going into it. But like, I wanted to do it before, but now I really want to do it. It’s just, like, the moment was taken away. I’m super excited for it.”
In addition to his Everest ambitions, Allin is also preparing for this Sunday’s All In: London event, where he’ll challenge TBS Champion Jack Perry in a coffin match.
It turns out that Allin is already thinking ahead to next year’s All In in Arlington, confirming a tweet from Renee Paquette that he’s been scouting Globe Life Field with big plans in mind to create an unforgettable moment.
“…I was just walking around, looking around like, ‘What can I fall off of?’ To me, going to all these buildings, there’s such an aura and vibe to these stadiums. And every time I’m walking in, I’m like, ‘What can I do that will leave a lasting impression?’ And I put myself in the shoes of being like a fourth grade kid, you know what I mean? Like, if I saw something, what will I remember for my entire life? Because, with this wrestling stuff, it’s pretty wild how much of an impact you can have on people’s lives. I don’t take it for granted. It’s pretty crazy, you know, just how you can inspire somebody and change the whole trajectory of their life.”
Allin went on to compare his efforts to create memorable moments to those he watched growing up with Mick Foley and Jeff Hardy. He believes that if one moment can change a life like it did for him, then it’s all worth it.
“So if I need to sacrifice myself at Globe Life Field, ok,” he concluded. We will have to see if he is able to scale the famous mountain this time around. He has a war waiting for him at Wembley Stadium first.
Although his previous attempt at climbing Mount Everest didn’t pan out, the fact is that Darby Allin is never one to take a loss lightly. He seems determined to defeat the mountain, a feat that has taken the lives of countless people to the point where they had a problem with dead bodies on the trails for the longest time. Either way, Darby Allin is going to get his climb in, one way or another.
