AEW is keeping an eye on the entire pro wrestling world, and Tony Khan is willing to spend big for the right talent. While the company has signed many stars from the independent circuit, Michael Oku has not yet received an offer, despite ongoing rumors.
Michael Oku’s name has been circulating in the pro wrestling rumor mill recently. There have been stories suggesting that Oku might be heading to AEW, but he recently addressed these rumors, clarifying that no deal has been made.
A report suggested that Michael Oku and Amira were close to signing with AEW and were expected to work both the Dynamite taping in Cardiff and All In at Wembley Stadium. Oku responded to the report by confirming that there has been contact between him and Tony Khan.
In a new interview with GRAPPL, Oku was asked again about the rumors. Oku acknowledged that it’s interesting those rumors exist and that people believe them. He expressed interest in working with AEW in the future, but confirmed that nothing is currently in the works.
“My honest thought is that it’s very cool that those rumors exist and that they can be believed. AEW is a company that I would like to work for and it’s cool that I’ve had a lot of experiences working with a lot of their talent or working close to them if you include the Jericho cruise as well.”
Oku also emphasized that nothing has been confirmed between him and AEW. Although performing at Wembley Stadium during All In on August 25 would be a great opportunity, Oku couldn’t confirm any involvement, but he did acknowledge that wrestling is often full of surprises.
“Wembley Stadium, being anybody, the chance to perform at Wembley Stadium would be a really cool thing and that’s something that I would love to tick off and do. But, at the moment, it’s something that I’m open to and nothing more, nothing that is confirmed. Of course that would be my answer if I was confirmed, because everyone lies in wrestling. [laughs] But, I’m putting it out there, that is what I’m saying, so I’ve said it.”
Michael Oku chose his words carefully in the interview. While he did not admit to any ongoing negotiations, he also did not outright deny them.
We will have to see what the future holds for AEW and Michael Oku. He has the potential to be a breakout star for any company he joins. The big question is what direction he will choose to take in the coming years.
