When CM Punk made his return to wrestling at AEW Rampage: The First Dance, he celebrated by distributing ice cream bars. Despite his absence from wrestling between 2014 and 2021, fans continued to chant his name, especially fervently in his hometown of Chicago.
While speaking in an interview with Busted Open Radio, Punk reflected on the support he received from fans during his hiatus and expressed his awareness of how much he meant to them. He mentioned that the free ice cream bars were his way of thanking fans for their patience.
Punk promised more surprises for future Chicago shows and shared that he feels misunderstood at times. He talked about his affection for fans and his efforts to create enjoyable experiences for them, recalling past instances where he brought donuts and pizza to fan events.
“I realized it. It’s the reason why everybody in Chicago got free ice cream, as a thank you from me to the fans for waiting. More surprises in store if you plan on attending any shows in Chicago in the near future ‘wink wink, nudge nudge.’ I think I’m greatly misunderstood. Always love the fans. Very vocal about the bad ones though, and those are the stories people tend to harp on. I spent, I don’t know how much money buying 20,000 ice cream bars for the fans in Chicago. It’s something I always try to do. Dating back to when I was doing Wizard World Q&As, I’d bring donuts, pizza. I always want a fun, happy environment that I want my fans to enjoy being around.”
CM Punk volunteered to be part of NXT’s CW Network debut show in Chicago. Punk truly loves his fans in Chicago, so we’ll have to see what surprises he will have in store for them on October 1st.
