Wardlow generated significant excitement among AEW fans when the company signed the massive Cleveland native. With a promising future ahead, he was given the spotlight, but in recent months, the Wardog has been notably absent from both Dynamite and Collision. This has left many fans questioning his current status and what lies ahead for him.
Wardlow reclaimed the TNT Championship on April 19, 2023, only to lose it to Luchasaurus on June 17 at Collision. He made a heel turn on October 4, defeating several opponents and hinting at a challenge for the AEW World Champion MJF. On December 30 at AEW Worlds End, Wardlow joined The Undisputed Kingdom, aligning himself with Adam Cole in pursuit of the AEW World Championship. After winning an All-Star Scramble at Revolution for a title shot, he was defeated by Samoa Joe on Dynamite: Big Business. Since then, Wardlow has been absent from AEW programming.
During his Backstage Report podcast on Fightful Select, Sean Ross Sapp discussed Wardlow’s mysterious absence. Despite inquiries, AEW has provided no clear answers regarding his status.
“He posted a picture of him in a car accident he had. I don’t know if that’s what sidelined him, but he has not been around. A lot of people I talked to have not heard much about what’s going on there when I asked.”
It’s uncertain what Wardlow’s next move will be. His early career included significant work with Cody Rhodes, which could potentially pave the way for a WWE recommendation should the opportunity arise. Given that Wardlow is his actual last name, it’s likely that he would carry it with him if he were to make the jump to WWE.
Wardlow’s journey in pro wrestling is far from over, and while his return to the ring is anticipated, it’s unclear what impact he will have. The priority remains keeping him healthy, as his recent setbacks have certainly affected his momentum.
