Sami Zayn’s tenure as WWE Intercontinental Champion came to an end at WWE SummerSlam when he lost the title to Bron Breakker and lost to Breakker again on RAW this week. With that said, Zayn did compete in a first-time-ever match after SmackDown this week.

As seen during the August 16th episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Jacob Fatu made his return to WWE television for the first time since SummerSlam and utterly annihilated Roman Reigns.

Sami Zayn certainly has a lot of history with Roman Reigns, as he used to be part of The Bloodline with Reigns until he turned on Reigns and they feuded for a while, culminating in a solid match at Elimination Chamber 2023.

Following the conclusion of Friday Night SmackDown, Sami Zayn made his way to the ring and competed in a dark match. Zayn squared off against Santos Escobar, in what was a first-time-ever match and it saw Sami Zayn pick up the win in decisive fashion.

This wasn’t the only dark match of the night as Jey Uso and Damian Priest also faced off against GUNTHER and Ludwig Kaiser in a tag team match. Uso and Priest would be victorious in the tag team match to send the crowd home happy.

We will have to wait and see what’s next in store for Sami Zayn now that he is no longer the Intercontinental Champion. It is likely WWE will have something significant planned for him as we head towards Bash in Berlin.
