Since his departure from WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has stayed mostly out of the wrestling spotlight. However, recent developments have reignited speculation about his potential involvement with AEW. McMahon was spotted with Tony Khan last month and now Khan has addressed the photo of themselves leaking.

On July 29, 2024, Khan and McMahon held private meeting at an office in Arlington airport. This was their first direct discussion, despite Khan’s previous interest in connecting with McMahon. The meeting reportedly focused on exploring potential collaborative opportunities, which has led to rumors about McMahon’s possible future role in AEW.

The photo of McMahon and Khan was leaked online and this ended up becoming a huge topic of discussion. While speaking to the LeBatardShow, Tony Khan was asked about the photo leaking and who was responsible for it.

Khan mentioned that it was likely someone working at the airport. They were having a nice chat in the airport lounge when someone walked in, seemingly distracted by their phone, and accidentally captured the moment. Khan explained that it wasn’t a clandestine meeting, just a friendly conversation. He noted that he had heard many good things about McMahon, they have mutual friends, and since they were both in Dallas, they decided to meet up at the airport. Khan found McMahon to be a very respectful and respectable person and enjoyed their talk.

“I think somebody who works at the airport… I mean, we were just talking in the airport lounge, having a really nice chat, as the photo kind of evidenced, and somebody just walked in, kind of like they were on their phone and ‘oops, sorry,’ and then walked away. I think that’s probably what it was. It wasn’t like that slick, but also it’s not like a top secret thing. I just wanted to have a nice conversation with him.

You know, I’ve heard a lot of nice things about him. We have a bunch of mutual friends, and we were both in Dallas. They said, ‘You guys should meet up,’ so we met up at the airport, and it was a nice talk. I thought he’s a very respectful and respectable person and somebody I really enjoyed talking to.”

Internally, WWE also expects Shane McMahon to appear on AEW programming at least once. Nonetheless, we will have to wait and see whether the meeting will bear fruit and lead to a proper relationship in the future.
