WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry recently appeared on the podcast “Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw,” where he shared his thoughts on various topics, including Vince McMahon and his personal experiences within WWE.
Henry, who made an appearance on Monday Night Raw, didn’t shy away from addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding McMahon, while also defending his former boss based on his own interactions.
Speaking about Vince McMahon, Henry acknowledged the difficult times McMahon has faced recently due to the allegations against him. However, Henry was clear that his personal experience with McMahon was positive.
“He’s going through a tough time and all of the stuff that happened recently and stuff. I never saw none of that. I never heard no negativity like that. Him playing a damn joke on me was the worst of it like, you know, where I felt like, okay, that infringed on the business, but it was nothing remotely bad that I had to say about Vince and I took some heat for saying that before.”
Henry acknowledged that his defense of McMahon has drawn criticism, with some accusing him of being insensitive to those who suffered due to McMahon’s actions. Henry responded by questioning whether the suffering of some individuals was truly consistent, especially when they benefited financially during their time with WWE.
“People were like, ‘You’re being insensitive and there’s other people that suffered.’ I said, ‘Yeah, but you know, some of those people that y’all talking about suffering, their suffering got worse when the money ran out. Like, where was the suffering when they were getting BMWs and a million dollars? Did that pacify the suffering? Because if you are suffering, you should suffer all the time, right? Nothing should get in the way of that. I don’t know. I just come from a different time.”
JBL, co-hosting the podcast, added his own perspective, stating, “I agree. I have no idea what happened and what’s truth and what isn’t…I had a personal relationship with Vince and it was fantastic. He was very good to me and very good to a lot of the old guys that he didn’t have to be good to.”
Henry further emphasized McMahon’s generosity towards WWE legends, sharing stories of how McMahon would ensure that former stars received paydays by bringing them in for events.
“Vince would be like, ‘Hey, how many legends are going to be at this event?…There needs to be at least 10 to 15 guys that can get a payday. Call them.’”
Henry noted that McMahon didn’t have to extend this generosity, but did so to provide both a historical presence on WWE shows and financial support for the veterans of the business.
While the allegations against McMahon have certainly cast a shadow, figures like Mark Henry and JBL have chosen to focus on their positive personal experiences and the ways in which McMahon supported WWE legends.
How do you feel about the way Henry and JBL approached this topic, and do you think it’s possible to separate personal experiences from the broader allegations? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
