John Cena is set to conclude his legendary pro wrestling career in 2025. When he appeared at Money in the Bank this year, the Toronto crowd was unaware they would witness such a monumental announcement. However, this moment was something Cena had carefully planned and prepared for over time.
Cena recently discussed the advantages of having a clear timeframe for his WWE retirement. He will officially retire in 2025, dedicating the entire year to his WWE family. After 23 years of being a prominent figure on WWE television, Cena has made it clear that he will not take another bump or be involved in any WWE performances beyond being a devoted fan.
On CBS Mornings, Cena shared his thoughts on his retirement, expressing his satisfaction with having a definitive end date. He appreciates the accountability it provides, knowing that the WWE Universe will hold him to his word if he ever considers stepping back into the ring.
“I feel great. My last performance in the WWE ring will be in December 2025, period, and I like saying that because if I lie to my audience, they’re gonna call me on my BS.”
As Cena prepares to hang up his Jorts, he remains uncertain about what the future holds. He intends to take things one day at a time and, true to the values he has long championed—hustle, loyalty, and respect—he simply wants the opportunity to earn every sunset.
“I’ll know what’s next when it comes up, but I know if I wake up every day and say, ‘How can I earn the sunset?’ I’m going to do something useful, and that’s going to lead to something to be done.”
John Cena will make about 36 appearances for WWE during his Last Time Is Now tour. Only time will tell how many of those appearances result in matches.
He has made it very clear that there will be no one-off matches after his final contest. So, John Cena is taking this retirement seriously, and it will likely result in big business for the remainder of his appearances for the company.
