“Heels,” starring Stephen Amell, was a notable addition to television in 2021, delivering the kind of storytelling and drama that wrestling fans had been eager for. Although the show was canceled after just two seasons, its move to Netflix has reignited hope about the possibility of a third season.

The second season of “Heels” premiered on Friday, July 28, 2023, at midnight ET on the Starz app, drawing significant praise from fans. The inclusion of CM Punk and AJ Lee as major characters added to the show’s appeal.

In September 2023, disappointment struck as Starz announced the cancellation of “Heels” after its second season. The decision left viewers frustrated, especially since the series ended on a major cliffhanger.

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, ”Heels” showrunner Mike O’Malley stated that the series finally arriving on Netflix this September could lead to a third season. O’Malley expressed that everyone involved in the show is eager to continue making more episodes. He mentioned that the success of “Suits: LA” could attract more viewers to Stephen Amell’s work on Netflix. Although producing a season of Heels is labor-intensive, there are usually breaks during which more episodes can be made.

O’Malley pointed out that Netflix is practical and will consider making more episodes if the show attracts a large audience. If it doesn’t perform well, there won’t be a reason to continue. He also praised the authentic and genuine performances of the actors in the series and expressed excitement about the wider audience Netflix could bring to their work.

“To a person, every single person involved in this show wants to make more Heels,” O’Malley commented. “The success of Suits: LA will just drive more people to watching Stephen’s work on Netflix. It doesn’t take that long to make a season of Heels. It’s very labor intensive, but there are windows of time during hiatuses to make more.”

“Netflix is very practical,” O’Malley noted. “If a lot of people watch the show, then there’s a real chance that we can make more. And if people don’t, there’s no reason to make more… The acting performances are so authentic and so genuine by every actor in this series, and I am thrilled that this platform will allow more people see those performances.”

Although the cancellation of “Heels” was disheartening for fans, the possibility of a revival on Netflix offers a glimmer of hope. While it’s uncertain if a third season will materialize, fans remain hopeful for a satisfying continuation of the series.
