The SummerSlam Premium Live Event delivered excitement from start to finish and during that week, they also held tryouts to scout new talent. One notable name in the tryouts was Sofia Iaderosa but WWE ultimately passed on her and she has now revealed why WWE didn’t sign her.

During SummerSlam week, WWE held a series of tryouts with a diverse group of athletes and aspiring wrestlers. The event was enhanced by the presence of WWE legends such as Shawn Michaels and CM Punk.

Among the participants, Sofia Iaderosa stood out and quickly went viral, generating an impressive 3.2 million impressions on her Twitter profile. This has sparked significant anticipation among fans, who speculate that she could be WWE’s next major signing. However, WWE opted not to sign her in the end and that shocked fans.

In an exclusive interview with Cultaholic Wrestling’s Tom Campbell, Iaderosa shared that WWE Senior Manager of Athlete Talent Strategy, Brad Fernandez, offered her a tryout. Initially, she thought it might be a scam when she received a direct message inviting her to try out. At the time, she was between contracts and unsure of her next move, so she decided to give it a chance, even though she didn’t follow WWE or have any wrestling experience.

“I honestly thought it was a scam at first. I got just a DM from I guess the head of talent there at WWE just inviting me to try out. It was in kind of a weird period in my life because I’m out of contract with my last team, kind of looking at what’s next, what team’s next. So it worked out perfectly for me and I was like, ‘You know what, I don’t really watch WWE. I’ve never wrestled. Never even really batted an eye towards that.’ So I just thought I’d give it a shot.”

After the tryout, Iaderosa noticed she had gone viral and was overwhelmed by the positive reactions and support she received. However, WWE decided not to sign her because she struggled with taking bumps in the ring. Despite this, they were impressed with her promo skills.

Iaderosa explained that the main feedback was that she wasn’t athletically where WWE wanted her to be, which was understandable since wrestling was new to her and she had only a week to prepare. They pointed out issues with her bumping technique, particularly concerning neck safety. On the positive side, her promos received great feedback, and part of her promo was even featured in Shawn Michaels’ new vlog.

“The main feedback was just kind of basic stuff to me, athletically in terms of wrestling I wasn’t where they wanted me to be. Which I understand because it was really foreign to me and I was given what to do a week before I got there so there was only really so much I could do. They just said kind of the bumps was the big thing with the neck and not being able to do the bumps properly, which also I completely agree with. It was super foreign to me. That was the main feedback,” Sofia continued.

“My promos were great, which I was hoping for. That’s why I was like if athletically wrestling I’m not the best at it, at least the promos would come off great and I got great feedback for that. They actually included part of my promo in Shawn Michaels’ new vlog…I guess just athletically wasn’t what they wanted.”

Canadian-born Sofia Iaderosa, currently playing for Ataşehir Belediyespor in Turkey’s top division, has established herself as a formidable athlete. She previously played for Birkirkara in Malta, where she competed in the UEFA Women’s Champions League at just 18 years old. Given her impressive background, it will be interesting to see if she participates in another WWE tryout in the future.
