Mercedes Moné captured the TBS Championship by defeating Willow Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing. She then became a double champion after beating Stephanie Vaquer at Forbidden Door to claim the NJPW Strong Women’s Title. This week on AEW Dynamite, she faced a formidable opponent in Hikaru Shida.

Although Hikaru Shida held the AEW Women’s World Title for an impressive stretch several years ago, she has been working tirelessly to reclaim that glory. On the August 14 episode of AEW Dynamite, she challenged the CEO for the TBS Title, aiming to regain her spot at the top.

Shida has been honing her promo skills, particularly in mastering the English language, and her efforts have been paying off. She’s recently delivered a few intense promos, earning praise from fans. While Mercedes has a match lined up against Britt Baker at AEW All In, she first had to overcome the challenge posed by Shida.

The TBS Title match kicked off this week’s AEW Dynamite, with both competitors exchanging moves in a closely contested battle. The crowd was firmly behind Hikaru Shida, who was eager to face Britt Baker again, with All In on August 25 being an ideal stage for that showdown.

Kamille was at ringside, keeping a close eye on the match from Mercedes Moné’s corner. In one highlight, Shida countered Mercedes’ 3 Amigos suplexes and executed a driver of her own, forcing Moné out of the ring. Kamille attempted to interfere, but Shida fended her off with a kendo stick.

Mercedes then grabbed the kendo stick, distracting the referee. This allowed Kamille to deliver a decisive kick to Shida. When Shida returned to the ring, Mercedes hit the Money Maker and secured the pin to retain her title. However, her celebration was cut short when Britt Baker’s music hit.

What’s your take on Hikaru Shida’s booking in AEW? Do you think she will win another title in the company? Let us know in the comments section!
