Chris Jericho is truly a veteran in the pro wrestling industry, whose career has spanned more than 30 years and he truly loves AEW no matter what. With that said, he made an admission about AEW.

Chris Jericho made his WWE debut in 1999 by confronting The Rock after the countdown clock hit zero. Despite his fame from WCW, Jericho took the opportunity to introduce himself to the live audience to ensure everyone knew who he was.

Chris Jericho talked about his WWE debut in 1999 during an appearance on Talk Is Jericho, emphasizing the importance of introducing himself to the live audience. He explained that, despite his prior recognition from WCW, he wanted to make sure everyone knew who he was.

Jericho pointed out this approach by recalling his debut promo where he said, “My name is Chris Jericho,” during the first episode of Dynamite on October 2, 2019. He noted that this practice helps ensure that new fans understand who the wrestler is, as opposed to the occasional lack of introduction seen in AEW. Jericho felt it was crucial to establish his identity and purpose, especially in an era where fans might be divided between watching WCW and WWE.

“I thought it was very important to introduce myself in case somebody didn’t know me. That’s something we don’t do a lot of in AEW at times. When we just bring somebody in. ‘Oh my gosh, it’s Zack Sabre Jr. Ah!’ ‘Who?’ If you go back and watch my very first promo on October 2, 2019, which was the very first Dynamite, I said, ‘My name is Chris Jericho.’ Just in case there is somebody who might not know me. In 1999, which was 20 years earlier, just in case people didn’t know me, of course a lot of people did know me because there is tribalism, ‘We watch WCW. We watch WWE.’ I let people know who I was and what I was there to do.”

Chris Jericho was also accused of deliberately trying to sabotage match on AEW Dynamite last month. Regardless, we’ll have to see if AEW will continue this trend of not introducing some talent so that they can introduce themselves instead.
