MJF made his shocking return at Double or Nothing back in May, which was the first time fans saw him since AEW Worlds End back in December 2023. MJF has been active since his return but he has now confessed that he is still not back to 100% physically.
Since his return at Double or Nothing, The Salt of the Earth has won the AEW International Championship from Will Ospreay and renamed it the AEW American Title. He also defended the title against Michael Oku last week before Will Ospreay returned to RevPro and ran off MJF.
While speaking to Cultaholic Wrestling’s Jack King in an interview recorded before his match against Oku, MJF revealed that he isn’t fully recovered from his injury and returned to action sooner than he should have. He candidly admitted that he felt the show suffered without him, prompting his early return despite not being 100 percent physically.
MJF noted that even at less than full strength, he was still able to secure victories over notable opponents like RUSH and Templario, and plans to continue his winning streak against the likes of Will Ospreay on August 25th.
”I’ve come back from injury and I will tell you candidly, so here’s a little clickbait for you. I’m still not 100 per cent. I had to come back because I don’t know if you noticed this but the show without me blew a bag of d*cks. So I came back a little bit earlier than I probably physically should have. The funny thing is I was still able to beat RUSH, Templario, soon it’ll be Michael Oku, Kyle Fletcher, and Will Ospreay, and I’m gonna do it again on August 25th. And that’s me at 80 per cent.”
It remains to be seen whether MJF will end up defeating Will Ospreay at AEW All In on August 25th and cement himself as the true American Champion once and for all, as many fans want Ospreay to win instead.
