Tony D’Angelo had a firm grasp on the NXT Heritage Cup championship for months, overcoming some of the top stars of the Black and Gold brand. However, the reign of The Don finally came to its conclusion on the August 13 edition of WWE NXT.

On this week’s show, D’Angelo was challenged by promising NXT upstart and son of WWE legend William Regal, Charlie Dempsey, flanked by his New Quarter Catch Crew cohorts including their new member, Wren Sinclair. On the other hand, Tony D’Angelo had the members of his D’Angelo family in his corner.

The NXT Heritage Cup match typically features six rounds with a three-minute time limit and 20-second breaks between each round. At the end of Round 2, Tony D Angelo scored the first pinfall to gain momentum.

However, with some physical punches and words of motivation during the break between rounds, Charlie Dempsey bounced back and rolled up Tony D’Angelo in Round 4 to even the score.

As the match reached the end of Round 5, a timely assist by Wren Sinclair, who knocked Tony D’Angelo off the top rope, gave Dempsey the opening to drop him to the mat and score the pinfall to win back the NXT Heritage Cup Championship for the second time and from the same man he lost the title to in the first place back in May.
