Chad Gable made a significant character shift when he turned heel back in April and had been feuding with Sami Zayn for a few months after that. However, he was never able to beat Zayn for the title and Gable has now claimed that he is ‘almost happy’ about not winning the title.

During the Clash at The Castle Premium Live Event, Chad Gable was determined to defeat Sami Zayn for the Intercontinental Championship. Despite his best efforts, Gable failed to win it.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Chad Gable stated that he feels disappointed for not having won a championship during his previous run. He doesn’t want fans to think of him as someone who is great but just can’t win the big one. He acknowledges that he is capable of winning but believes that not having achieved it yet might make the first win even more meaningful. Gable feels that coming so close so many times, including the time spent with Gunther, significantly impacted his career. He credits Gunther for elevating him and believes the impact of their work together cannot be overstated.

Gable also reflects on his recent work with Sammy Zayn, noting that they accomplished a lot in a short period. This experience, while leaving some things unresolved, positioned him as a strong singles competitor. He sees the championship as the final piece of the puzzle, and he is now focused on achieving it. Despite the previous close calls, he is almost glad that it didn’t happen then because the work done in that period was sufficient. Now, he feels ready and that the championship is still an opportunity available to him.

“I hope so. I feel like I also am disappointed in the fact that I didn’t grab one during that whole run because I don’t want to give the fans the impression that, ‘Well, he’s great, but he’s also just the guy that can’t win the big one.’ I know I am and I know I can, but what this is doing is, I think, for me, building that first one to mean almost as much as maybe it’s ever meant for anybody. You know, I’ve come so close so many times. The Gunther stuff—what it did for my career, what Gunther did for my career—can’t be overstated. I have him to thank for so much, the way he elevated me. And then moving on to the stuff with Sammy, from a storytelling perspective alongside the in-ring perspective, we got so much accomplished in such a short amount of time. I feel like for both of us, it left just the right amount on the table for me as a singles guy to be like, ‘He did so much there, he got so much done, but he didn’t win the championship, so we’ve got one piece of the puzzle left to fill in.’ I’m almost happy it didn’t happen then because of what we got done there. It didn’t need it; I didn’t need it. But now I do, and so now it’s still on the table for me.”

In the meantime, Chad Gable is teaming with The Creed Brothers and feuding with The Wyatt Sicks. With Bron Breakker being the Intercontinental Champion right now, we’ll have to see when Gable will go after the title again.
