AEW President Tony Khan, known for his wrestling passion, faced a Twitter controversy impacting his reputation earlier this year. This wasn’t even the first time he got embroiled in controversy either and now Eric Bischoff believes Tony Khan’s social media posts make AEW look weak.
Earlier this year, Tony Khan found himself in another Twitter meltdown concerning Jinder Mahal and he was then called out for letting tweets affect him. Obviously that wasn’t all that Khan did over the years.
While speaking on his Wise Choices podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff took another shot at AEW CEO Tony Khan, criticizing his recent social media post where Khan thanked WBD CEO David Zaslav. Bischoff drew comparisons between Khan and former TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter, pointing out that both feel the need to use social media for negotiating and promoting.
While acknowledging that using social media for promotion is common, Bischoff argued that Khan’s approach comes across as transparent and weak, reflecting poorly on his leadership and experience
“I found it interesting that Tony feels the need, much like Dixie Khan — I mean Dixie Carter … I did that on purpose, but it’s easy to do because there’s a lot of similarities, one of which is they feel the need to negotiate and promote in social media. Nothing wrong with promoting in social media. I do it all the time. I did it this afternoon to let all of you know that I was going to be here doing a ‘Wise Choices’ episode. Nothing wrong with that. But it comes to a point where some of the stuff that Tony’s doing is so freaking transparent and weak. It makes him look weak, it makes his company look weak. It’s a reflection of poor leadership and lack of experience.”
Tony Khan also believes social media debates foster healthy competition. Regardless, Khan will handle AEW the way he wants to and that is unlikely to change anytime soon either.
