Since leaving WWE after WrestleMania 39, Shane McMahon has kept a low profile in the wrestling world. However, recent rumors about him possibly joining AEW have gained momentum, particularly after a notable meeting between McMahon and AEW CEO Tony Khan. Amidst this speculation, MJF has expressed his opinion that Shane McMahon should not face him in AEW.

On July 29, 2024, Khan and McMahon held private meeting at an office in Arlington airport. This was their first direct discussion, despite Khan’s previous interest in connecting with McMahon. The meeting reportedly focused on exploring potential collaborative opportunities, which has led to rumors about McMahon’s possible future role in AEW.

While speaking to Cultaholic, MJF addressed the speculation about a potential match with Shane McMahon. He suggested that such a match could be detrimental to McMahon’s well-being, whether it involves a verbal confrontation or an actual wrestling bout. MJF admitted that while he would find the experience enjoyable, he might also feel some bad for McMahon.

“I think it would be bad for Shane McMahon’s mental health to get in a ring with me on a microphone or bell to bell. So my answer is yes, because I would have the time of my life but my answer also just because I’m so salt to the earth is I think for the first time in my career maybe I’d feel bad.”

When reacting to a photo of McMahon’s meeting with AEW CEO Tony Khan, MJF expressed his disdain, labeling McMahon as a “mark” and showing a lack of respect for both him and Khan. Although MJF acknowledged his own high status within his company, he did not extend that respect beyond the financial aspects.

“He’s a f**king mark. I mean, yeah, that was my reaction. I don’t respect either of them. I respect the fact that I am the highest-paid athlete in my company. Rightfully so. Outside of that, and the money stuff. I don’t know, man.”

Tony Khan has also stated that Shane McMahon is very smart about wrestling after their recent meeting. Internally, WWE also expects Shane McMahon to appear on AEW programming at least once. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether the meeting will bear fruit and lead to a proper relationship in the future.
