AEW’s locker room dynamics have come under scrutiny this week due to a heated altercation between Britt Baker and MJF. The incident has sparked significant discussion among wrestling fans and industry insiders. MJF has since addressed the confrontation, providing his perspective on the situation.
The confrontation stemmed from comments Britt Baker made about MJF and his girlfriend, Alicia Atout, during the July 17th episode of Dynamite. These remarks were relayed to MJF through Atout, leading to a heated exchange. The situation further escalated when Will Ospreay stepped in to mediate by discussing the issues with Baker.
Tensions reached a peak when MJF, visibly upset by the situation, punched a wall backstage, showing the intense emotions and high stakes within AEW’s locker room. Despite the issues, Britt Baker continued to appear on television. An HR-led investigation into the incident led to a brief suspension for Baker and also looked into allegations that she had verbally confronted Atout and requested her removal from the women’s locker room.
While speaking with Cultaholic Wrestling’s Jack King, MJF addressed the reports of his backstage confrontation. He mentioned that it’s okay not to get along with everyone at work, but he thinks the story has been blown out of proportion.
MJF questioned how believable the reports were, suggesting that if he had really barged into a woman’s locker room, yelled at her, and threatened her by punching a wall, it would be surprising if he hadn’t been suspended. He thinks much of what was said about the incident is incorrect.
MJF believes that the situation was likely exaggerated by wrestling news sources looking for attention. Despite the competitive nature of wrestling, MJF stated that he can still appreciate and promote other wrestlers. He specifically praised the upcoming match between Britt Baker and Mercedes Moné at Wembley on August 25, calling it an exciting event. He reiterated that he doesn’t need to like all his co-workers but still respects their skills.
“Tell me if this passes the smell test. I barge into a woman’s locker room. I scream in the face of an 110-pound woman, and then I physically threaten her by punching a wall in her vicinity…and I don’t get suspended. Does that pass the smell test to you? Almost everything that was written didn’t happen.
“Everybody has co-workers at work they may not get along with. I have a feeling that this was blown out of proportion because all of the English wrestling commentary places that make money off of people like me, who are far more rich and talented and handsome and humble, need clickbait.”
“I can sit here and I can say wrestling is a very competitive sport. It breeds a level of insecurity like no other. However, I can easily put over any talent, regardless of whether or not I like them as a human being. I can sit here and I can tell you that Britt Baker vs. Mercedes Moné at Wembley on August 25th is going to be an epic match and we should all be excited to watch it. I don’t have to like all my coworkers and that’s fine. But yeah, dude, that sh*t was wild to read.”
We have also reported that AEW personnel are angry about the fact that MJF wasn’t suspended after his confrontation with Britt Baker. Regardless, Britt Baker is already back on AEW television and fans simply hope the company can put all this drama in the past as we head towards AEW All In on August 25th.
