The world witnessed the rise of a new World Heavyweight Champion at WWE SummerSlam 2024 when Gunther, with a little assistance from Finn Balor, dethroned Damian Priest to capture his first World title in the global juggernaut.

The Ring General kicked off his title reign with a huge celebration last on RAW, only to be confronted by his opponent from WWE King and Queen of the Ring PLE, Randy Orton. The Viper reminded him that he never pinned his shoulders to the mat and challenged him for the World Championship at WWE Bash in Berlin, which Gunther accepted.

Randy Orton, being a SmackDown superstar, made yet another appearance on the August 12 episode of Monday Night RAW with the road to Bash in Berlin underway. Orton revealed that almost two decades ago, he won his first World Championship and claimed that history would repeat itself at Bash in Berlin where he plans to win his 15th World title.

This led to Gunther making his way to the ring to confront his upcoming opponent. Gunther berated Orton for wasting his talent and potential all these years, citing reason for Orton to not be the absolute best. Orton owed up to his all his past mistakes, but reminded Gunther of who he is truly is, one of the most successful and dangerous WWE superstars of all time.

The World Heavyweight Champion, not backing down, gave his predictions that Orton will not beat him in Berlin and he would not become a World Champion again. Gunther then brought Orton’s legendary Grandfather and father and called all three of three “screw-ups.” Just it seemed like Orton would strike at those personal remarks, Drew McIntyre made his way down the aisle.

Distracted by McIntyre’s appearance, Randy Orton laid out Gunther with an RKO while CM Punk appeared out of nowhere to attack Drew McIntyre and stood tall over his heated foe, hinting that things were far from over between them.
