Former WWE Champion Big E has been on hiatus from in-ring action due to a severe neck injury. Throughout his recovery, he has emphasized that he doesn’t want fans to feel sorry for him.

Big E has been sidelined since the March 11, 2022 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, where he sustained broken neck. During his absence from the ring, Big E has remained active with numerous appearances on various shows.

While speaking to Adrian Hernandez, Big E was asked if there is a cutoff for his return, after which he will simply retire and be content. Big E talked about whether he would be okay with retiring from WWE because of his neck injury. He said he doesn’t know if there’s a specific date or timeline for his return. Right now, he feels content with his life. Instead of focusing on what he has lost or can’t do anymore, he chooses to focus on the positives. He feels very lucky and grateful. He’s not in pain, he moves well, and he lives a good life. He doesn’t want anyone to pity him; he has a lot of good things going on.

Big E enjoys being involved in different roles, like countdown shows and pre-shows. He’s grateful for his 15 years with WWE and amazed at how fast the time has gone. Even though he’s not wrestling, he’s happy with the new opportunities he has. He appreciates the ongoing support from fans who have stayed with him for two and a half years. Big E is thankful for everything and doesn’t have any regrets. He’s just enjoying the good things in his life.

“I don’t know if there is necessarily a cutoff. I don’t know if they have a date in mind or a timer or any of those things. But I’m content in life right now, and I have been content in life since day one, honestly. I think instead of focusing on all the things that are lost or the things I can’t do or not being in the ring anymore, I focus on the things that I do have. I’m so blessed and so fortunate. One, I’m not in pain; I move around well, I’m in the gym, and I live a great life. You don’t have to pity me or feel bad for me at all. I have so many incredible things.

The nice thing is, although I’ve been out of the ring, I have so many other challenges and things that have come my way that I’ve really enjoyed. I’ve loved being a part of these countdown shows, pre-shows, post-shows, and being able to cover events. Being here on a weekend like this and taking part—I’m so fortunate and blessed. To be 15 years in under contract with WWE, I can’t believe how quickly it’s flown by, but I’m still here, still doing things that I love and enjoy. I get to see so many of my friends, so I’m immensely blessed and really thankful for all those things. I appreciate everyone who’s checked in on me. I can’t believe it—after a year, I thought people would have moved on and given up. But here we are, two and a half years later, and people are still asking and still want me back in the ring. I appreciate that; it means a lot. But no, life has been really, really good. I am blessed. I don’t live in any regret or any of those things. I’m very, very thankful.”

Big E traveled to Cancun for stem cell treatment in hopes of speeding up the healing process and even stated that he feels great after the treatment. Therefore, only time will tell if Big E will ever return to the ring, as many fans still have hope.
