Penta El Zero Miedo, renowned for his role in the acclaimed Lucha Brothers tag team with Rey Fenix, has been a prominent figure in AEW since its launch in 2019. With their contracts nearing expiration and speculation about a possible move to WWE, it seems the likely reason for their potential departure from AEW has been revealed.
As previously reported, Penta El Zero Miedo’s AEW contract is set to expire between August and September 2024, making him a potential free agent. He is reportedly open to exploring opportunities outside AEW, with WWE showing interest in securing his services. The same situation applies to Rey Fenix, as both wrestlers’ contracts are set to end this year.
There is a strong belief within AEW that Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix might be heading to WWE once their contracts expire. WWE is also considering their arrival, with discussions favoring an immediate placement on the main roster rather than starting in NXT.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about The Lucha Brothers leaving AEW once their contracts end. Meltzer mentioned that the Young Bucks haven’t been at recent TV tapings.
Pentagon and Fenix wanted to speak with them, but the Young Bucks weren’t available due to unspecified reasons. Meltzer also noted that Pentagon was considering leaving AEW, while Rey Fenix wanted to stay loyal to his brother.
“They (Young Bucks) haven’t been (at TV), because I know Pentagon & Fenix wanted to talk to them, and they weren’t there because of whatever. I did hear a lot about the Pentagon and Fenix stuff, and essentially I think Pentagon didn’t wanna stay (in AEW), and Fenix wanted to be loyal to his brother. And that’s kinda it.“
In the meantime, Rey Fenix has also pulled out of an indie even in September. Possible names for the Lucha Brothers after their AEW departure have also been revealed. Nevertheless, we’ll have to see if they will end up leaving AEW and joining WWE, as all signs point towards that happening.
