WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff, renowned for his extensive knowledge of the pro wrestling industry, has often criticized AEW. He has questioned Tony Khan’s abilities as a booker and also challenged Khan’s claim that AEW is under constant attack.

If it wasn’t clear already, Eric Bischoff isn’t the biggest fan of AEW. He doesn’t even believe AEW is contributing anything to the world of professional wrestling, unlike what WWE does.

Last year, Tony Khan addressed the ongoing criticism directed at AEW. He stated that being part of AEW inherently means being under constant attack and that people will always find reasons to complain. Khan mentioned that he has moved past worrying about negative comments.

To be AEW is to be under constant attack. You do a great show and the next day, somebody’s saying something negative. You do 5 great shows in a row, it’s negative. You break the ticket record for the most tickets ever sold for any wrestling show in the history of the world, someone has something bad to say about it.

At this point, I don’t worry about it. We just need to go out there and do great shows week after week like we did.

While speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Eric Bischoff addressed Tony Khan claiming that AEW is under constant attack. Bischoff stated that AEW’s problems might stem from the idea that being part of AEW means dealing with constant criticism because it’s seen as a challenger brand. He questioned who AEW is actually competing against, arguing that they’re only up against the least successful parts of the industry and are close to setting a new low record.

Bischoff said that anyone else in Tony Khan’s position, if held accountable, would have been fired a long time ago. He pointed out that Khan’s nearly unlimited financial resources are the only reason AEW is still on TV. Without that money, Khan would have been let go a long time ago.

“Maybe it’s everybody else’s fault. Maybe it’s because, you know, ‘to be in AEW is to be under constant attack’ because you’re the challenger brand. Tony, you keep bringing that up. You’re not the challenger brand. Who are you challenging? You’re only challenging the bottom of the barrel, and you’re getting really close to establishing a new record. Anyone else in your position who would have been hired and held accountable would have been fired a long time ago. You’re in a unique position, Tony, because it’s your money, and you can spend as much of it as you want. You have an almost unlimited source of it. Good for you—I’m not saying that’s a bad thing; I wouldn’t mind being in that position. But that’s the only reason you still exist on television. If you were held accountable for anything, you’d have been fired a long time ago.”

Tony Khan also recently claimed that many people are trying to sabotage AEW’s success. Khan is also confident that AEW will become profitable and successful company after securing the media rights deal. Nonetheless, Bischoff will always criticize Tony Khan for his actions and that’s unlikely to change anytime soon.
