At the 2024 WWE Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada, John Cena announced his upcoming retirement from professional wrestling. In light of his impending retirement tour, Cena expressed his desire to compete in the UK next year.
WrestleMania, WWE’s big annual event known for its impressive show and global popularity, could take place in London. London Mayor Sadiq Khan is eager to host it in the UK capital.
John Cena even showed up at last year’s Money in the Bank in London to make it clear that WrestleMania should take place in the city. We also reported about WWE’s willingness to host WrestleMania in London.
It was also reported that WWE is currently discussing having WrestleMania event take place in London. In fact, even Triple H revealed the reason why WWE is considering London as host for a future WrestleMania.
While speaking to TalkSPORT, John Cena expressed a desire for UK dates to be part of his farewell tour. He pointed out the strong support WWE has received from both the UK and Canada and reiterated his belief that London deserves to host WrestleMania. While he won’t have a match in London in 2025, Cena remains hopeful for future WrestleMania events there and plans to attend as a fan if it happens.
“I really hope so. As you know, I’m retiring from in-ring performing next year and we’ll start in January and we’ll do our last match in December 2025. I really hope there are some UK dates involved in that farewell. I meant what I said, and I said the same thing in Canada, the UK and Canada have been such strong supporters of the WWE, through thick and thin. I campaigned for WrestleMania to be located in London because I think London has absolutely earned the right to host the Grandest Stage of Them All. Nick Khan and Triple H were just there talking to the mayor of London. Hopefully, I don’t know, things work out and maybe WrestleMania in London in the future. It’s not going to happen in 2025, so unfortunately, I won’t have a match there, but if it does, I will absolutely be there as a fan.”
We have also reported that WWE is already considering opponents for John Cena, and he even has an interesting idea for tag team partner. It remains to be seen how Cena’s retirement tour will turn out, as fans can’t wait to enjoy his last year as a pro wrestler.
