The pro wrestling world is full of contract situations, and every company wants to lock down talent that they can build around. Now, it appears that Trevor Murdoch isn’t going anywhere any time soon, because Billy Corgan’s company has inked an exclusive deal with him.
Trevor Murdoch is solidifying his place in the NWA by signing an exclusive contract with the promotion. This was officially announced by the NWA via a press release. The Missouri native, who is a veteran with 25 years in the wrestling ring, is a two-time NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, a title coveted by many in the industry.
NWA Chief Operating Officer Joe Galli spoke very highly of Murdoch, and how he “epitomizes” the very nature of what the NWA is all about. That legacy of the NWA stretches back to greats like Harley Race and Ric Flair.
“Trevor Murdoch has virtually come to epitomize the National Wrestling Alliance in the Lightning One Era. Whether in the ring or as a ‘locker room leader,’ he’s a cornerstone of this company that we’re happy to say will be with us for quite some time.”
Murdoch’s accomplishments in the NWA are notable, as he has twice claimed The Ten Pounds of Gold, won the National Heavyweight Championship, and captured the Crockett Cup alongside partner Mike Knox in 2023. The tag team of Knox & Murdoch will face off against The Southern Six’s Kerry Morton & Alex Taylor in a grudge match at NWA 76 on August 31 in Philadelphia’s 2300 Arena.
Murdoch previously signed a three-year deal with WWE in July 2005, forming a notable partnership with Lance Cade. In April 2008, he began developing a country singing gimmick on WWE’s Raw, which led to a storyline split with Cade. After a draft to the SmackDown brand in 2008, Murdoch was released from WWE before debuting.
Speaking of NWA 76, the event promises to be a celebration of the NWA’s “History, Legacy & Tradition,” featuring action at Philadelphia’s legendary 2300 Arena. As the NWA’s biggest Signature Live Event of the year, it offers an evening of memorable pro wrestling.
