The August 9, 2024 episode of WWE SmackDown went down at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The building was packed full of WWE fans, all ready for the big show, and the opening segment had a lot in store for them.

At SummerSlam, Cody Rhodes successfully defended his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa in an exciting main event, which took a dramatic turn when Roman Reigns made his return, decisively taking out Sikoa and setting the stage for a tense stare-down with Rhodes, leaving the WWE Universe buzzing and anticipating the continuation of this story. Cody Rhodes kicked off this week’s episode of SmackDown, addressing Roman Reigns’ shocking return and possibly teasing who his next challenger might be as WWE gears up for the upcoming Bash in Berlin event.

Fans were ready to welcome Cody Rhodes, and they showered him with applause before he even said a word. Rhodes said that he’s been thinking about who he wants to defend his title against at Bash in Berlin. Suddenly, Solo Sikoa made his way to the ring. The new Tribal Chief said he didn’t care what anyone wants to hear, but he wanted to talk about SummerSlam. There was some bleeping as the crowd berated Solo with profanity-filled chants.

Solo demanded a rematch for Cody’s title. That caused Cody to erupt on Solo, as he confirmed Jacob Fatu’s injury. Cody said he is delusional if he thinks he has any claim to a rematch. The Bloodline surrounded the ring as Kevin Owens slid in with a pair of steel chairs to even things up.

The Bloodline left, as Solo said he’ll be back. They started to play Cody Rhodes’ music, but then he cut it off. That is when Cody asked Kevin Owens if he wanted a shot at the Undisputed World Title at Bash in Berlin. Owens said that he didn’t deserve the title match, and that drew a boo from the crowd, along with “You Deserve It” chants. Then the match was set after that, and it looks like they’re going to do this without a heel turn at this point.
