WWE is set to shake up their commentary teams soon with the addition of Joe Tessitore, a well-known figure from ESPN, who will join as a play-by-play commentator. Although it was initially rumored that Tessitore would be heading to SmackDown, it was later confirmed that he will be joining the Monday Night RAW announce team.

On the other hand, Michael Cole, who has been a staple on RAW, was announced to be moving to SmackDown in September alongside Wade Barrett due to Pat McAfee’s new commitment to College GameDay.

However, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this arrangement will be temporary. In January 2025, Michael Cole is scheduled to return back to RAW as it transitions to Netflix, while Tessitore will take over the lead announcer role on SmackDown for its broadcasts on the USA Network.

“As announced, Michael Cole will be moving to SmackDown in September with Joe Tessitore debuting on Raw, but the plan is for them to swap again in January so Cole can be on Raw for its move to Netflix: Those at WWE have confirmed what Cole said was accurate. In January, Cole will be moved back to Raw on Netflix while Tessitore will become the lead announcer for Smackdown on USA.”

This strategic change in the WWE commentary lineup is expected to bring fresh energy and a dynamic presence to both shows. However, with Michael Cole now reported to return to RAW at the dawn of the Netflix era, it will be interesting to see the final commentary team set for both shows by WWE when the time arrives.

What are your thoughts on Michael Cole’s move to SmackDown reported to be temporary? Do you think it is the right decision to have him back on RAW as the show moves to Netflix in 2025? Sound off in the comments!
